Six bills in the Brazilian Congress criminalize everything from cutting in line to receive a vaccine to people who spread “fake news” about how vaccines work.
Authored by Senator Angelo Coronel (PSD), PL 5555/2020 foresees the inclusion in the Criminal Code of imprisonment for one to three years for people who omit or oppose the mandatory vaccination of children or adolescents in a “public health emergency”.
The project also criminalizes, with a penalty of two to eight years in prison, people who refuse to take the mandatory doses of vaccines.

Researcher David Rozado did a study of ChatGPT and found it had an overwhelming left-wing bias.
Microsoft announced last month that they’re investing $10 billion into ChatGPT developer OpenAI.
“We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said.

I will illustrate it with three articles from the City Journal, published by the Manhattan Institute. Two are by Heather Mac Donald and one is by John O. McGinnis. Heather Mac Donald explains what has happened to museums (Winter 2022) and to the medical profession (Summer 2022). John McGinnis (Spring 2022) explains what has happened to the legal profession. Both writers are good at their task and have done their homework. My account is a poor second to reading their articles.

In tech & social media, the labor market got shot. In the rest of the economy, it remains very tight.
The announcements of global layoffs by tech and social media companies and by startups make all the news. But these are announcements, not actual layoffs, and they’re global, with only part of them in the US. Tech and social media are a relatively small part of the US economy, while companies in much larger other sectors are trying to hire. Boeing, which added 14,000 employees in 2022, said it wants to hire an additional 10,000 people in 2023, most of them in its business units, engineering, and manufacturing. Chipotle said it will hire 15,000 people in 2023. Other companies are trying to hire as well, in a labor market that remains tight.
