Russian security services have formally filed espionage charges against Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who has been detained in Russia since his arrest last month. Gershkovich reportedly denies the spying allegations and says he was engaged in journalistic activity in Russia.

Over the years, countless experts have warned about privacy and cybersecurity risks with all “smart” technology. In regard to “smart” home devices, university researchers released additional warnings about it last year. While Amazon may not be the only company guilty of collecting private data on consumers (including children) without their consent via smart devices, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently announced the agency will be taking legal action against the company for it and possibly other offenses as well.

The federal agency identified certain transactions to have high-risk issues in noncompliance and vowed to ramp up enforcement in those transactions.
“The IRS tracks many known, high-risk issues in noncompliance, such as digital asset transactions, listed transactions and certain international issues. These issues arise in multiple taxpayer segments, and data analysis shows a higher potential for noncompliance,” the tax agency wrote in its newly-released funding plan (pdf).
