The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, announced an authorization this weekend that allows civilians to carry and use guns amid surging crime in the country.
Reuters noted that crime has reached a point where it is hard to curtail, and Lasso hopes to find some degree of respite in allowing citizens to be armed for self-defense.
Lasso—a political conservative—announced the new policy, saying, “We have a common enemy: petty crime, drug trafficking, and organized crime.”

People are sick and tired of the ruling class’s overblown fear-mongering of COVID, so much so that no really pays attention to it anymore. But The World Health Organization (WHO) says the newest mild variant is “one to watch”.
They’ve found a gold mine of control over the public and really don’t want it to end even though no one really noticed anything out of the ordinary other than the desperate attempts of tyrants to keep this virus relevant.

by Michael Snyder, End Of The American Dream:
Let’s just hope that the U.S. does not need to fight a major war any time soon. Right now, the U.S. Army is actually shrinking because so few young people are being recruited. Interest in serving in the military has plummeted dramatically, and meanwhile the percentage of our young adults that actually qualify to serve has fallen to a depressingly low level. According to a recent Pentagon study, 77 percent of all Americans from age 17 to age 24 are ineligible to serve in the military for one reason or another. That is a pathetically low figure, and it is the main reason why we need other countries to fight our wars for us at this point. Just look at Ukraine. We are providing the funding, the equipment, the ammunition and the intelligence, but they are providing the warm bodies. If that changes and our young people are actually forced to fight in a major conflict, they will quickly find out that a real war is nothing like Call of Duty or Fortnite.

Silver led precious metals markets higher last week.
Safe-haven demand remains strong despite the rally in stock prices. There are lingering concerns among many investors about the economic outlook and the troubles in the banking sector are not likely over.
The U.S. dollar ended lower on the week while yields on the 10-year Treasury moved higher. Meanwhile, the ongoing flight of depositors remains a problem for banks.
The trouble began a few weeks ago when concerns over solvency at some small and regional banks prompted depositors to move funds to larger banks designated too big to fail. The FDIC and the Fed expanded deposit guarantees and added emergency liquidity.

Supporters of expanding the federal police state have found a new boogeyman to scare the people into surrendering their liberty: TikTok. TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to upload their own videos. It is used by tens of millions of Americans and is one of the most popular websites in the world.
TikTok’s popularity and the fact that is owned by a Beijing-based company — ByteDance — has led to the spread of a claim that the site is controlled by the Chinese government. Thus the claim the Chinese government is using TikTok to collect data on US citizens.

“We Americans are the ultimate innocents. We are forever desperate to believe that this time the government is telling us the truth.”—Former New York Times reporter Sydney Schanberg
Let’s talk about fake news stories, shall we?
There’s the garden variety fake news that is not really “news” so much as it is titillating, tabloid-worthy material peddled by anyone with a Twitter account, a Facebook page and an active imagination. These stories run the gamut from the ridiculous and the obviously click-baity to the satirical and politically manipulative.

One man’s disaster is another man’s gain.
During the recent banking upheaval, Chinese depositors withdrew some $240 billion from banks in the US and Switzerland, following the systemic failures of both Credit Suisse and Silicon Valley Bank.
As a result, Hong Kong banks reaped the windfall of capital flows, and have since been forced to suspend vacations for staff to service the new client accounts. Branches of HSBC are opening seven days a week to handle the influx.
