Gavin Newsom is unfit to run the state of California. The fire that has consumed tens of thousands of acres at the time of this writing could have been controlled had he not ignored warnings. The devastation of these fires will be felt for years to come as the death toll rises and over 100,000 residents have been forced to flee their homes.

The fires began in the Pacific Palisades on the morning of January 7. All three 1-million-gallon water tanks were completely empty by the evening. In 2019, then-President Trump demanded that Newsom turn his attention to forest management.

Before we get to today’s main blog, and the first blog of 2025, please allow me to say thank you to all of your for your patience and well-wishes during my Christmas-birthday vacation. 2025 is upon us, and sadly we are starting the year off with more tragedy in California, home of the (un)necessary wild fire.

I’ve seldom seen such a steady stream of articles about a story as this one, as I think it fair to say that I’ve had more articles about this than even about the hurricane that struck North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, and a feature of both of these streams has been the galloping government incompetence and corruption that constitute backgrounds of both stories, from Bai Den Jao’s gutting of the finances of FEMA to “help” the illegal migrants, to the same sort of thoughtless supply of firefighting trucks – from California(!) – to that country.

The Defense Ministry has said that an attack on the gas supply to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) member Türkiye was thwarted. Ukraine launched an unsuccessful drone attack on a compressor station that is key to the Russian energy infrastructure.

The attempted sabotage took place on Saturday and involved nine kamikaze drones, which Ukrainian forces launched at the Russkaya gas compressor station near the village of Gaikodzor in Russia’s Krasnodar Region, according to a statement from the ministry and as reported by RT.
