Currently, Ukraine has claimed that its main goal is to obtain meaningful security guarantees. However, Kyiv’s newly-appointed United Nations ambassador Andrey Melnik, has said that these security measures are no longer specifically tied to the country’s NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) membership.
This is a pivot for Ukraine, since a bone of contention since the onslaught of the conflict was NATO membership. Melnik made the remarks in an interview published by Germany’s Berliner Morgenpost on Friday.

(Consortium News) After years of intense opposition that left one protester riddled by police bullets, Atlanta’s so-called Cop City is set to begin operations in the next few weeks. The city’s police chief hosted a tour of the campus last week and training programs are expected to start during the first quarter of 2025.
The Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, as it is officially known, is an 85-acre campus with a price tag of at least $110 million and another $1.7 million recently approved by Atlanta’s City Council for its security.

When the end of another year rolls around it is not a bad idea to think about how we might improve ourselves and perhaps even improve the lives of others given the clean slate of a New Year. Many people resolve to exercise more, eat better, spend more time with their families. These are all worthy goals, but shouldn’t our elected officials and the bureaucrats who run DC be making some resolutions of their own? Here are a few suggestions.

The World Health Organisation (“WHO”) Pandemic Treaty negotiations made no significant progress at the end of 2024. Several countries, including the US, have expressed opposition to the treaty.
Developing countries are concerned that the treaty would impose surveillance and obligations under the guise of pandemic prevention and Donald Trump has said he plans to withdraw the US from the WHO on day one of assuming office.
The Treaty’s future is uncertain, with some doubting whether an agreement will be reached by the May 2025 deadline.

The U.S. government is currently constructing the most colossal monument in the history of the world. It is a monument of debt, and we will forever be remembered as the nation that piled up far more debt than anyone else ever did. For decades, this generation has been recklessly spending the money of future generations of Americans. Most people seem to think that we are totally getting away with this swindle, but the truth is that the party is almost over. Our national debt has already surpassed the 36 trillion dollar mark, and according to usdebtclock.org at our current rate of spending our national debt will surpass the 51 trillion dollar mark four years from now.

As the embers of 2024 spit out their dying sparks and tendrils of smoke corkscrew into 2025, I want to ask: what were the important news stories of this year?
Most people will say something international. The war in Ukraine, the atrocities in Gaza, the fall of Assad.
Maybe some will cite elections, it was a big year for voting after all. A global shift-change in the corridors of power saw a dozen governments swapped out for new faces, with 2 weeks of the year left it’s still possible Trudeau, Macron or Scholz may join the procession.
