Parents and doctor can make decision if kids are ‘unwilling’
On February 1, a Dutch law allowing the euthanasia of terminally ill children went into effect. The law legalizes the killing of children ages one through 12 who are deemed to be “suffering hopelessly and unbearably.”
Previously, the country allowed euthanasia of children older than 12, along with infants under age one who could be killed if their parents and doctors agreed and they faced an illness labeled as terminal or faced serious suffering. In 2023, lawmakers passed a controversial expansion of the eligibility guidelines to include children of all ages.

A poll conducted in the wake of probably the worst week of his Presidency has found that a whopping 86 percent of Americans do not feel Joe Biden is in good enough shape to serve another term.
The poll by ABC News/Ipsos was carried out Saturday, after the Special Counsel report that described Biden as “an elderly man with a poor memory,” and after he ended up angrily yelling at reporters for asking questions about the issue.

Moody’s Investors Service has downgraded its credit rating for New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) to junk status – its lowest investment-grade rating – as the troubled regional bank continues to struggle. The downgrade pushed its credit rating down two full notches and indicates serious doubts about whether it will be able to repay debt holders.
According to Moody’s, the downgrade was prompted by the news that the bank experienced a surprisingly high loss on exposure to the commercial real estate market, which it focuses on heavily and is currently not faring well. It also cut its dividend in order to adhere to tougher regulatory requirements.

The gold price chopped quietly sideways to a bit lower in Globex trading overseas on Friday, but the sell-off became more serious staring around 11:20 a.m. GMT in London. It was engineered forcefully lower from there, with its low tick set around 11:05 a.m. EDT…five minutes after the London close. It was allowed to wander a bit higher from there until 1:10 p.m. — and then crept quietly and a bit unevenly sideways until the market closed at 5:00 p.m. EST.
The high and low ticks were reported as $2,051.90 and $2,034.30 in the April contract. The February/April price spread differential in gold at the close in New York yesterday was $15.40…April/June was $19.90…June/August was $17.90…August/October was $17.00 — and October/December was $16.70 an ounce.
