The U.S.-and-Allied ‘Assad’s Chemical-Weapons’ Propaganda Trick

Just like with ‘Saddam’s WMD’ (his U.S.-and-allied falsely alleged stockpile of weapons of mass destruction that ‘justified’ U.S.-and-allied invasion and destruction of Iraq in 2003), similarly, America’s invasion and destruction of Syria since 2011 has been ‘justified’ by the U.S.-and-allied allegation that Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad was using sarin and other chemical weapons against his own population.

On 12 December 2024, the Washington Post (one of the top liars against Saddam Hussein) headlined “Assad’s collapse triggers race to find missing chemical weapons”, and reported

The list of the missing is long. It includes, according to an audit by international weapons inspectors, more than 360 tons of mustard gas that Syria admitted making but has never been fully accounted for. Then there’s the five tons of missing precursors for the nerve agent sarin — enough poison to fill a small swimming pool. When pressed, Syrian officials offered an excuse that seemed laughably absurd.

“Lost during transportation, due to traffic accidents,” the Syrians said, according to notes from a confidential 2016 investigation obtained by The Washington Post.

What happened to those chemicals — at least some of which are suspected to have been hidden away for future use — is a suddenly urgent question in the wake of last week’s takeover by Syrian rebels.

Of course, the fact that those ‘rebels’ are actually al-Qaeda in Syria, and are led by that organization’s leader, Abu Mohammad al-Julani, is a clear give-away that this ‘news’-paper still remains a propaganda-agency for the lying U.S. Government, but what about “those chemicals”?

Another clue which is in the article itself is its reporting that Israel was careful to destroy the evidence if they could: “Israel, meanwhile, has refused to wait for inspector visits. The Israel Defense Forces conducted multiple airstrikes in the past week targeting military research centers and storage sites in what was widely seen as a preemptive measure to eliminate any weapons that might have been made.”

This is to give the U.S. Government and its colonies or ‘allies’ (including Israel) an excuse, in case no such stockpiles turn out to be found.

But what about the weapons-inspectors in this case? It’s been the same organization thoughout the war in Syria: “The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the international chemical weapons watchdog, convened an emergency meeting on Syria on Thursday at its headquarters in The Hague amid a flurry of diplomatic efforts to negotiate access to known chemical weapons sites throughout the country.”

OPCW Director General Fernando Arias said afterward that the agency was prepared to send teams to Syria, adding that the watchdog was “much better prepared to face such a challenge” than when OPCW inspectors first arrived in the country 11 years ago. In a statement, the group cited the possible existence of “not only residual elements, but also potential new components” of a chemical weapons program in Syria.

Director Arias has an interesting history: He cecame the OPCW Director on 25 July 2018. Up till then, it had been an honest Organization — not controlled by the U.S. Government nor any other imperialism, but instead honestly independent.

Just days before, on 7 July 2018, the ZeroHedge news-site had headlined “‘No Nerve Agents’ In Douma: OPCW Report Demolishes White House Sarin Narrative”. There were no nerve agents nor breakdown products from them, anywhere near that site, which the OPCW had investigated. They had done an honest job, and the U.S. White House, Trump, didn’t like it. A U.S.-and-allied accusation that Syria’s Government had dropped a chemical weapon on Syria’s town of Douma on 7 April 2018 had been followed seven days later by U.S. missile-attacks against Syria’s Government; and, now,  the OPCW was essentially reporting that the war-criminal here (if any) was Trump and not Assad. The existing OPCW Director was replaced by Arias on July 25th.
