On September 26, 2024, the Russian government announced that changes in Russia’s nuclear doctrine put forward by President Vladimir Putin are designed to discourage Ukraine’s allies in NATO from supporting direct attacks on Russia.

The United States and the European Union both criticized the latest statements by Putin as “irresponsible.”

Russian government spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed reporters that the changes in the document rolled out on September 25 by Putin serve as a “warning signal to those countries about the consequences in case of their involvement in an attack on our country with various assets, not necessarily nuclear ones.”

This change in doctrine has Russia now treating any conventional attack on Russian soil that is backed by a nuclear power to be treated as a joint attack on Russia.

This new doctrine is designed to discourage the Collective West from letting Ukraine strike Russia with longer-range weapons and apparently lowers the threshold for the potential use of nuclear weapons.

At the September 25 Security Council meeting that dealt with changes in the nuclear doctrine, Putin didn’t provide specifics on whether the revised document spells out a nuclear response to such an attack. Putin stressed that Russia could use nuclear weapons as a response to a conventional attack that poses a “critical threat to our sovereignty.”

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken labeled Putin’s statement as “totally irresponsible,” declaring on MSNBC that “many in the world have spoken clearly about that when he’s been rattling the nuclear saber, including China in the past.”

“To do that now while the world’s gathered in New York, including talking about the need for more disarmament, nonproliferation, I think that’s going to play very badly around the world,” Blinken proclaimed, making a reference to the United Nations General Assembly.

In a similar vein, European Commission spokesman Peter Stano took Putin to task about the nuclear doctrine as “a continuation of the very irresponsible and unacceptable behavior” by the Russian strong man, showing that “he doesn’t shy away from playing the nuclear gamble over and over again.”

Rush has been making steady progress in eastern Ukraine over the last year and it has been seeking to get the west to stop sending countless amounts of military and economic aid to Ukraine.

Ukraine has hit Russian territory with missiles and drones As a response to Russia’s consistent gains in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been begging NATO and its satrapies to provide it with longer range missiles to hit deeper inside of Russian territory. The Biden regime so far has not complied with Zelensky’s demand.

Nevertheless, the foreign policy class still wants to continue the conflict with Russia no matter the cost. Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the Collective West has been dumping billions in military aid in an effort to degrade the Russian military and drag it into a prolonged proxy war with Ukraine.

For the sake of peace and geopolitical stability, the US and its allies in NATO need to stop funding Ukraine and try to hammer out a diplomatic solution to this crisis. Continuing to not only fund this proxy war but also facilitate strikes against Russia will eventually lead to a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia — a nightmare scenario for world peace.
