In recent years, the federal government’s abuse of power has reached a critical point, threatening the very foundations of our Republic. The FBI, DOJ, and DHS — agencies designed to protect Americans — have been weaponized against the people they are supposed to serve. The illegal use of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to spy on American citizens, the politicized prosecutions of January 6th protesters, and the suppression of free speech through social media censorship are all stark reminders that tyranny has taken root in our government.

The FBI’s Abuse of Section 702 of FISA
The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) was enacted in 1978 to provide the government with the necessary tools to surveil foreign actors who pose a threat to national security. Section 702, in particular, allows the government to collect electronic communications of foreigners outside the United States without a warrant. However, in practice, this power has been grossly abused, particularly by the FBI, to spy on American citizens without probable cause.
A May 2023 report revealed that the FBI improperly accessed the FISA database to collect information on Americans, including those who participated in the January 6th protests (Barrett, 2023). This illegal surveillance is a blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment, which guarantees the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures. Yet, despite the clear unconstitutionality of these actions, the FBI continues to misuse Section 702, eroding the civil liberties of the American people.
This misuse of surveillance powers is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of the FBI’s overreach. The agency’s history of entrapment, targeting of political dissidents, and use of undercover agents to incite violence is well-documented. But the abuse of Section 702 represents a new low — a direct assault on the privacy and freedoms of American citizens under the guise of national security (Brennan Center for Justice, 2024).
The DOJ’s Weaponization Against Conservatives
The Department of Justice (DOJ), once seen as the impartial enforcer of the law, has become a political weapon used to target those who dissent from the prevailing leftist orthodoxy. The most glaring example of this is the DOJ’s aggressive prosecution of January 6th protesters. These individuals, many of whom were peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights, have been subjected to harsh punishments far exceeding those typically meted out for similar offenses (Hemingway, 2024).
Attorney General Merrick Garland has made it clear that these prosecutions are intended to serve as a warning to anyone who dares to question the legitimacy of the 2020 election or the actions of the federal government (Hemingway, 2024).
The case of the man who was prosecuted for carrying an American flag at the Capitol is particularly egregious (Philipp, 2024). What was once a symbol of patriotism is now being criminalized by a government that fears the very principles it represents.
The DOJ’s bias is further evident in its treatment of pro-life activists. Lauren Handy, a pro-life advocate, was sentenced to nearly five years in prison for her role in a protest aimed at saving the lives of unborn children (Stonestreet, 2024). This harsh sentence is a clear example of how the DOJ is being used to silence those who stand up for traditional values and the sanctity of life.
Contrast this with the DOJ’s handling of violent left-wing activists. BLM and Antifa rioters, who caused billions of dollars in damage during the summer of 2020, have faced little to no consequences for their actions. The disparity in treatment between these groups and the January 6th protesters is stark and underscores the politicization of the DOJ.
DHS and the Censorship of Free Speech
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has also been complicit in the federal government’s campaign against the American people. Through its pressure on social media companies, the DHS has sought to censor dissenting voices, particularly those that challenge the government’s narrative on issues such as COVID-19, election integrity, and immigration.
This coordinated effort to silence Americans is a direct violation of the First Amendment, which guarantees the right to free speech. Yet, under the guise of combating “misinformation,” the DHS has worked hand-in-glove with Big Tech to suppress the views of conservatives, libertarians, and anyone else who refuses to toe the government line (Naylor, 2024).
