Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said Tuesday that she didn’t position snipers on the roof where former President Donald Trump was shot from because it was “sloped” and presented a safety threat.

From ABC News, “ABC Exclusive: Trump rally shooting ‘unacceptable,’ Secret Service director says”:

[Cheatle] said there were not any snipers on the roof that were used by the shooter because it was sloped.

“So there’s a number of factors that come into play on how we secure buildings, both in our perimeter and out of our perimeter,” she said.

“At that site itself, there were actually a number of buildings in the outer perimeter. I know that we’re all focused on this one particular building because of what took place there. But there are a number of buildings in that outlying area,” Cheatle explained.

“That building in particular has a sloped roof, at its highest point. And so, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof. And so, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside,” she said.

The Secret Service snipers who killed the shooter were positioned on top of a roof far more sloped than the one he was on, so this is just total nonsense.

Elon Musk mocked Cheatle’s comments on Twitter:

Cheatle told ABC News the shooting was “unacceptable” but she will not resign.

During an interview with CBS News last year, Cheatle said that her goal as Secret Service Director was to hire more women and advance diversity.

Notably, Trump on Tuesday was seen with an all-male Secret Service team at the Republican National Convention.
