Nigel Farage, the leader of the populist Reform UK party, declared on June 21, 2024 that the expansion of NATO and the European Union into eastern Europe provoked Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

During a BBC interview on June 21, Farage pinned the blame on the Collective West, stating “it was obvious” more eastern European countries joining the defense agreements would provoke Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak lashed out by saying the statement “completely wrong.” He warned on June 22 that “this kind of appeasement is dangerous for Britain’s security, the security of our allies that rely on us and only emboldens Putin further.”

Since the 1990s, several eastern European countries have joined NATO and the EU, including Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

“I’m the only person in British politics that predicted what would happen, and of course everyone said I was a pariah for daring to suggest it,” Farage remarked..

Farage conceded that he “disliked” Putin but stressed that he “admired him as a political operator because he’s managed to take control of running Russia.”

“We provoked this war,” Farage commented. “Of course it’s his fault, he’s used what we’ve done as an excuse.”

Farage is one of the few leaders in the Anglosphere who gets the big picture issues of our time. For that reason, he gets demonized in the lying press and is attacked by nearly all members of the British political spectrum.

There’s a brewing right-wing populist movement across the Anglosphere, which represents the only hope for any sense of political normalcy to be brought back to these polities. Hopefully, voters come to their senses and set their political class straight.
