POLL: American Voters are Growing Hostile Towards Intelligence Agencies

According to a Rasmussen poll, 48% of likely United States voters perceive the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) favorably, which includes 17% with a very favorable impression. 41% view the CIA unfavorably, which includes 22% with a very unfavorable opinion. 10% are unsure.

51% currently believe US intelligence agencies have their own political agenda. By contrast, 36% of voters believe the agencies generally behave in an impartial manner. An additional 13% are unsure.

65% of voters believe it is likely that US intelligence agencies are influencing the corporate media’s coverage of political issues, which includes 38% who believe it’s very likely. 28% of voters said it’s not likely intelligence agencies are shaping media coverage.

77% of Republican voters, 53% of Democrat voters, and 65% of independent voters believe it is at least somewhat likely that American intelligence agencies are influencing corporate media coverage of political matters.

66% of Republican voters, 36% of Democrat voters, and 52% of independent voters believe US intelligence agencies hold their own political agenda. 53% of Democrat voters, 24% of Republican voters, and 30% of independent voters believe the agencies generally behave in an impartial manner.

67% of Democrat voters, 34% of Republican voters, and 44% of independent voters hold a favorable view of the CIA.

47% of white voters, 54% of black voters, and 53% of non-black minority voters have at least a somewhat favorable opinion of the CIA. 62% of non-black minorities are more likely than 48% white voters and 48% of black voters to believe US intelligence agencies have their own political agenda.

Self-identified conservative voters are more likely than moderates or liberals to believe that intelligence agencies are influencing corporate media coverage of political events

61% of public sector workers, 55% of private sector workers, and 46% of retirees view the CIA favorably.

When it comes to income categories, the bulk of voters making over $100,000 annually view the CIA in a favorable light. In a similar vein, individuals making $200,000 annually are the least likely to believe that intelligence agencies pursue their own political agenda.

Apart from being unconstitutional, the CIA is an unconstitutional government agency that’s meant to foment unrest abroad and get the US involved in conflicts that don’t advance its interests,

Obviously such an institution should be abolished. However, the first step to achieving such a lofty goal is to get the public to question this institution’s very validity. From there, coherent movements can be organized to gut and eventually abolish this wretched institution.
