Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa is now under the spotlight after claiming that the 2020 elections, which put President Joe Biden into the White House, were stolen from former President Donald Trump.

The National Pulse‘s Jake Welch reported on the development, citing an article from the Washington Post (WaPo) – which is also owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The virtual assistant cited Rumble and Substack, two platforms that refuse to bow to establishment censorship, as its sources.

Alexa remarked that the 2020 elections were “stolen by a massive amount of election fraud,” basing this remark on a Rumble video. It also noted that the election was “notorious for many incidents of irregularities and indications pointing to electoral fraud taking place in major metro centers,” citing a Substack piece as its source.

When news of Alexa’s “election denialism” broke out, Amazon went on full damage control. The tech giant was forced to immediately announce that it uses so-called “credible sources” – such as Reuters and RealClearPolitics – for Alexa’s answers. It also promised to address the problem, which it did by altering Alexa’s programming so that it refuses to answer election-related questions.

“These responses were errors that were delivered a small number of times, and quickly fixed when brought to our attention,” Amazon spokeswoman Lauren Raemhild said in a statement. “We continually audit and improve the systems we have in place for detecting and blocking inaccurate content.”

“The new [WaPo] report is likely to bolster concerns about technology’s role in the spread of misinformation, something officials have been increasingly worried about ahead of the 2024 election,” Business Insider noted.

“Social media platforms and generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology have been accused of proliferating misinformation. The rise of sophisticated generative AI has been seen as a potential threat to democracy because of its potential to create convincing deepfakes and spread false information at scale.”

Experts find evidence of stolen elections – the numbers don’t lie

Welch cited a Rasmussen Reports poll from April 2021, which found that 51 percent of Americans likely believe that “cheating affected the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.” The same survey found that 35 percent argue that vote fraud “very likely” had a role in how the 2020 elections played out.

But according to a separate article by LifeSiteNews from February 2021, experts reportedly found patterns in data from the previous year’s elections. They insinuated that “algorithm manipulation” may have affected absentee votes in multiple states, skewing results to favor Biden. The findings were initially cited in reports of swing state voting patterns compiled by physician John Droz. Two statisticians collaborating with him, Dr. William M. Briggs and Thomas Davis, found that absentee vote results for Republicans and Democrats appear to “track one another” in several Michigan counties.

While the high level of absentee voting among Democrats in the Great Lakes State in 2020 did not raise suspicions, patterns at the precinct level did. Briggs and Davis cited 2016 and 2020 election data from Ingham County as an example.

They observed that the 2020 election data in Ingham County reflected a “discernible pattern,” something absent in the 2016 iteration. “Not surprisingly, the percentage of Democratic absentee voters exceeds the percentage of Republican absentee voters in every precinct. What is remarkable – and unbelievable – is that these two independent variables appear to track one another,” the two experts said.
