The Gaza ceasefire is collapsing

The countdown for the sustainability of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip begun after the inflammatory statements of ethnic cleansing against the Palestinians by Trump and Netanyahu regarding their intention and agreement to “move”, i.e. displace, the Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip from Israel and the American involvement in the alleged “development” of the flattened Strip that resembles a Place of Skulls.

Trump’s meeting with the King of Jordan and his new statements that he will make the Gaza Strip “hell” if Hamas does not release the Israeli prisoners by Saturday, February 15, 2024, are clear proof that the US has now stopped maintaining even the last pretenses of mediation, leaning in favor of Israel. Tel Aviv’s decision on February 11, 2024 to invade the Gaza Strip again on February 15, 2024, if the Israeli prisoners are not released, is a continuation of Trump’s statements towards the collapse of the ceasefire.

These statements about a second Nakba are a bombshell in the foundations of any attempt to build trust between the two belligerents and the sustainability of the ceasefire, as one party to the agreement, Israel, and the alleged intermediary, the USA of President Biden, who promoted the agreement, are withdrawing their support for the agreement they themselves supported until recently with Trump. The reason? Their myopic interpretation of reality based on their fragile optimism.

Hamas, which sees that Netanyahu wants everything for himself, finds that Israel does not intend to implement what it agreed to: permanent peace with the exchange of prisoners, which would mean mutual recognition of the two belligerents as equal parties, a fundamental element for the next day in the Palestinian issue.

The Palestinian Resistance has made it clear from the outset that it wants a package solution: the release of all Israeli prisoners in exchange for a ceasefire, i.e. medium-term peace. In any other case, not all Israeli prisoners will be released.

By the end of February, most of the difficult winter will have passed, especially for the Palestinians, with spring just around the corner. Hamas will have re-armed and regrouped even more, and the civilian population will have been supplied with food, medicine and tents, regaining physical and mental strength.

For his part, Netanyahu sought the respite of the ceasefire in order to temporarily strengthen his declining political profile in Israeli public opinion with the release, at least, of the 33 Israeli prisoners. However, if Netanyahu seeks to uproot the 2.5 million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, he will continue to be personally responsible for the fate of the remaining Israeli prisoners in the hands of the Palestinian Resistance, further undermining himself politically.
