The House DOGE Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), has launched an investigation into alleged corruption and national security risks at the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), citing “gross negligence” and “rampant cronyism” among its leadership, according to a report by Fox News. Greene’s inquiry follows President Donald Trump’s recent executive order to dismantle USAGM along with six other federal offices as part of his plan to streamline the federal bureaucracy.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Greene described USAGM as a “direct threat to national security,” accusing the agency’s leadership of abusing its authority and mishandling sensitive information. Founded in 1999, USAGM oversees international media entities such as Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and has historically been led by executives with ties to mainstream media organizations like MSNBC and NPR.
Kari Lake, senior advisor to the Trump administration and tasked with overseeing the agency’s closure, previously criticized USAGM as “not salvageable” and a “national security risk.” Greene is now requesting Lake’s cooperation to provide Congress with access to agency records related to what she calls “serious allegations of corruption, financial mismanagement, and national security failures.”
In a letter obtained by Fox News Digital, Greene detailed past findings from the Office of Personnel Management and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence that exposed “intentional defiance of national security protocols,” including unauthorized access to sensitive data by federal employees. She also referenced a 2020 investigation by law firm McGuireWoods, which corroborated whistleblower accounts of unlawful J-1 visa approvals and millions of dollars in questionable contracts awarded through the agency’s Open Technology Fund (OTF) to individuals with conflicts of interest.
Additional abuses cited in the report include the destruction of evidence, with senior USAGM officials allegedly erasing laptop hard drives prior to handing them over to investigators. While many of those involved were fired during Trump’s first term, Greene stated that “nearly all” were rehired under the Biden administration, enabling them to resume their activities without consequences.
Greene is seeking records related to all OTF grant agreements, settlement agreements tied to the McGuireWoods investigation, and any other documentation deemed relevant by Lake. Her office issued a statement condemning the Biden administration’s rehiring of implicated officials, calling it a “direct threat to national security” and “an insult to taxpayers.”
“We will not allow the former Biden regime to cover up illegal activity and shield bad actors from accountability,” Greene said, pledging to hold those responsible accountable before the agency is fully dismantled.
