Declassifying Russiagate

Will it change anything?

My interest in declassifying the JFK papers couldn’t be measured by a microscope. I predicted that there would be nothing there and… surprise, there was nothing there. Not that it would matter if there was anything. Ditto for UFO’s, Bigfoot or anything else you want. Frankly, we live in a world where there’s an audio tape of MLK at a gang rape and it has changed absolutely nothing including his annual day off work.

(Yes, it’s an actual thing that happened and it got less headlines than an influencer grabbing an animal for a photoshoot in Australia. Similarly, we have evidence of sexual assaults involving JFK which occasioned less public and media interest than a zoo gorilla being shot to keep it from killing a kid.)

The files we actually need are about one of the most grotesque abuses of government power in recent memory and the sort of thing that Obama and Biden would call an “attack on our democracy” if they weren’t responsible for it.

I refer of course to Russiagate.

Back during Term 1, I went on constantly about declassifying the documents and letting the public see them. Sadly, that never happened, but now President Trump signed an executive order declassifying much of Crossfire Hurricane.

“Subject to the exceptions identified above, the Attorney General shall make declassified materials described in this memorandum available to the public immediately.”

Unlike the JFK assassination nonsense, there hopefully is something worthwhile here, though I suspect we’re just going to see the names we already know, doing the things we know they already did, without proper links to the people over them who gave them their orders.

But I’m eagerly waiting to be disappointed.

In some ways, Russiagate is as dead as JFK. This needed to be done in Term 1. The Left long since moved on to the 2020 election as their great indictment. And before long, they’ll find some third element. But the perps are still alive and they still wield power in the body politic. And if nothing else, declassifying the documents may keep this all from happening all over again.
