Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told agency staff in his first address on Tuesday that his tenure will be marked by broad scrutiny of health policies and practices, with no topic too controversial to investigate.

“Nothing is going to be off limits,” Kennedy declared, urging employees to start from ‘square one’ and abandon any preconceived notions about his leadership. According to Politico, Kennedy made clear that those unwilling to embrace his approach could choose to leave.

“Some of the possible factors we will investigate were formerly taboo or insufficiently scrutinized,” he said. “Those who are unwilling to embrace those kinds of ideas can retire.”

Kennedy, long known for questioning vaccine safety, acknowledged his history of asking difficult questions but emphasized that he is open to revising his views based on evidence.

“I’m going to keep asking questions but hold my preconceived answers lightly. I’m willing to be wrong,” he told HHS employees.

His speech follows recent staffing cuts at HHS led by the Elon Musk-backed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has been targeting agencies for cost reduction and restructuring. Kennedy did not directly address the layoffs but reiterated his stance that resistance to reform would not be tolerated.

As part of his health policy overhaul, Kennedy identified several key areas for investigation, including:

  • The nation’s childhood vaccine schedule
  • The effects of antidepressants
  • The impact of ultra-processed foods on chronic disease
  • Electromagnetic radiation exposure
  • Glyphosates, a widely used herbicide in food production

He also vowed to remove corporate influence from public health decision-making.

“We will remove conflicts of interest from the committees and research partners whenever possible or balance them with other stakeholders,” Kennedy said. “We will shut the revolving door.”

His comments align with his “Make America Healthy Again” initiative, which promotes the belief that chronic disease is linked to environmental toxins, food additives, and pharmaceutical overreach.

Additionally, Kennedy will chair a newly established commission under President Donald Trump tasked with investigating chronic diseases, childhood obesity, and what he describes as the overmedication of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
