Trump is turning to Guantanamo partly due to concerns over whether certain countries will keep their criminals in detention. As another option, El Salvador‘s President Nayib Bukele has also offered President Trump the use of prison facilities in his country for migrant criminals.
Describing Gitmo as a secure and restrictive facility, Trump expressed confidence that this strategy would impede the return of illegals to the U.S. He emphasized the administration’s resolve to address what they view as criminal activity linked to illegal migration, affirming that the facility is “a tough place to get out of.”
