“A lot of people have been waiting for this for a long time—years, decades,” Trump said during the signing ceremony. “Everything will be revealed.”

The executive order is expected to release tens of thousands of classified documents, which researchers and conspiracy theorists alike have long sought access to. The files are anticipated to shed light on the events surrounding the assassinations of three pivotal American figures.

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, in 1963, a moment that shocked the nation and remains shrouded in mystery. His brother, Robert F. Kennedy, who served as U.S. Attorney General and later as a U.S. Senator, was assassinated in Los Angeles in 1968. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader of the Civil Rights Movement, was killed on the balcony of a Memphis motel the same year.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of the late senator, has repeatedly claimed that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) played a role in the assassinations of both his father and uncle. He has urged the government to disclose its involvement and recently called for the release of all related records, citing the 1992 President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act.

The 1992 Assassination Act, which was signed into law to ensure public access to JFK assassination files, has been only partially implemented. While former President Joe Biden voted in favor of the act as a senator, he did not declassify the remaining documents during his presidency.

“This is a momentous step toward transparency,” said Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “The American people deserve to know the full truth about these events.”

Trump’s executive order requires the National Archives and Records Administration to expedite the release of all assassination-related files. Under the directive, any agency withholding records will be required to provide a detailed justification, ensuring accountability and compliance.
