Ever since the Cold War, the domain of outer space has always been an extension of the Earthly military battlefield. Both sides were obsessed about the possibility of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) being deployed from a nuclear weapon going off in space, as well as the radiation fallout – depending on where the blast went off, whether it would be harmful or not. The U.S. military staged such event, known as Starfish Prime, and it wasn’t the first (or last time) that the U.S. or Soviet Union would test nuclear weapons in space. In fact there were more than a dozen tests between the years 1958 and 1962. The results were nothing short of horrific, and to some degree, are still affecting the planet and its inhabitants today. Watch:
