Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, co-heads of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), have strongly criticized the recently introduced continuing resolution (CR), which includes provisions for a 40% pay raise for members of Congress. The controversial $1.7 trillion spending bill has been labeled a “slap in the face” to American taxpayers struggling with inflation and economic challenges.

The CR would extend government funding through March 2025, but embedded within its provisions is a 40% salary increase for lawmakers, raising their base pay to nearly $250,000 annually. Musk and Ramaswamy, tasked with spearheading President Donald Trump’s mission to cut wasteful government spending, expressed outrage over the bill’s content. Musk stated emphatically on X (formerly Twitter), “This bill should not pass.”

Ramaswamy echoed similar sentiments, urging all lawmakers to thoroughly review the CR’s provisions. “Currently reading the 1,547-page bill to fund the government through mid-March. Expecting every U.S. Congressman & Senator to do the same.”
