Here’s an hour-by-hour guide to when polls close and when preliminary results might start coming in for each time zone.

6 p.m. EST
The first polls to close are in Kentucky at 6 p.m. EST. Kentucky, which has eight votes in the Electoral College, will be among the first states to begin reporting results.
7 p.m. EST
At 7 p.m., a significant wave of states will close, including Georgia, a key battleground state with 16 electoral votes. Joining Georgia are Florida (30 electoral votes), Indiana, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Vermont, and Virginia.
7:30 p.m. EST
By 7:30 p.m., North Carolina, another battleground state, closes its polls. Also at this time, both Ohio and West Virginia will close their polls. Ohio’s 17 electoral votes make it a significant state to watch.
8 p.m. EST
The largest group of states closes their polls at 8 p.m. Among them are two crucial battlegrounds: Michigan (15 electoral votes) and Pennsylvania (19 electoral votes).
