will suggest a theory that I maintain answers the question in this headline: What Explains the Left’s Hatred for Donald Trump? The fountain source of this rage, as we will see, is identified in this biblical account of another irrational and murderous hatred:

The next day a harmful spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and he raved within his house while David was playing the lyre, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand. And Saul hurled the spear, for he thought, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David evaded him twice. Saul was afraid of David because the LORD was with him but had departed from Saul. (1Samuel 18:10-12)

Saul was king over Israel and David was his faithful and loyal subject. David defeated the enemies of Israel and these victories should have made King Saul joyful. But instead, he came to rage with jealousy as he heard the people praising David. As you can see in the Scripture quoted above, that jealously turned to rage as Saul attempted to kill David.

But do not miss that opening phrase – “The next day a harmful spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and he raved…”. It made no sense. If you had asked Saul what the reason was for his violence against David, he would not have been able to provide a logical answer. In fact, the real reason was that Saul hated the fact that the Lord was with David, and in fact, Saul probably had gotten word that Samuel, per the Lord’s instruction, had already anointed David as King to succeed Saul.
