On August 5, 2024, former Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney announces that she is voting for Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.
Cheney announced her decision to pull the lever for Harris during an appearance at Duke University, per multiple individuals posting on social media who were in attendance for Cheney’s speech.
The daughter of neoconservative Vice President Dick Cheney was a member of the House select committee that investigated the January 6, 2021 storming of the United States Capitol.

“Because we are here in North Carolina, I think it is crucially important for people to recognize, not only is what I’ve just said about the danger that Trump poses something that should prevent people from voting for him, but I don’t believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states,” Cheney stated in a clip disseminated across social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Cheney continued by noting that “as a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”
Cheney has been a harsh critic of former President Trump and has declared that he “threatens to unravel our Republic” and is an individual who is not “fit to serve.”
Cheney is following in the footsteps of other anti-Trump Republicans such as former Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinge and Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan in backing Harris.
She was initially elected in 2016. However, Trump-endorsed challenger Harriet Hageman defeated Cheney by an overwhelming 66.3% to 28.9% margin during the Republican primary on August 16, 2022.
Cheney embodies the establishment conservative mindset that’s dominant in DC politics. Her endorsement of Harris is very much in line with the ruling class’s desire to maintain the current order of never-ending wars and mass migration. Cheney’s presence in Congress will not be missed.
Hopefully, America First nationalists continue to gain more influence in the GOP to prevent future Liz Cheneys from ever assuming office.
