Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) made a stunning claim during an appearance on Breitbart News Daily, stating that five known assassination teams are currently operating in the United States, with at least three of them being foreign, all allegedly targeting former President Donald Trump. Gaetz also expressed concerns over potential vulnerabilities in Trump’s security, as well as suspicions from lawmakers about a possible mole within the U.S. Secret Service.

Foreign Assassination Teams Target Trump
Gaetz did not hold back in describing the threat level Trump faces, calling it “tragic” and “avoidable.” He revealed, “There are at least five known assassination teams in the United States, three of which are foreign, and they are out to kill Trump.” Gaetz added that these teams pose a significant threat, and that the security surrounding Trump has not been adequate given the seriousness of the situation.

Gaetz elaborated on his recent meeting with a senior official from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), who confirmed the existence of these teams and expressed concern that the Secret Service was not providing sufficient security for the former president. “I am starting to get the impression that we do not have enough force protection supporting President Trump that we ought to have, given the threat environment,” Gaetz said.

Suspected Second Attempt Involving Foreign Contacts
Gaetz also discussed the second assassination attempt on Trump, which took place at one of his golf properties, allegedly involving suspect Ryan Wesley Routh. Routh was reportedly stopped by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) upon his return from Ukraine. According to Gaetz, CBP officials found Routh’s story suspicious, particularly his claim of recruiting fighters for Ukraine and financing the effort through his wife. Despite these concerns, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not pursue an investigation and allowed Routh to reenter the country.

“We’ve got a lot of questions about that,” Gaetz said, criticizing the lack of follow-up by federal agencies. Routh was later apprehended outside one of Trump’s properties after allegedly attempting to target the former president.

Secret Service Mole Suspected
As concerns mount over Trump’s security, Gaetz suggested that some of his Republican colleagues are suspicious of a potential mole within the Secret Service. During his Breitbart News Daily interview, Gaetz said that while he has not personally seen evidence of a mole, “I have Republican colleagues who have not ruled out a mole inside the Secret Service providing information about points of vulnerability.”

Gaetz added that the disdain some federal agencies have for Trump might be contributing to reduced security efforts. He speculated, “There’s such a sense of disdain for Trump… giving him less protection, not having him surrounded by a bunch of strong men that appear authoritative in nature, that type of virtue signal to drain protective resources away is tolerated because, frankly, they don’t think much of Trump.”

Ryan Routh’s Connections and Ukrainian Ties
Of particular concern to Gaetz is the possibility that Routh, the suspect in the second assassination attempt, may have had foreign backing. Gaetz revealed that just days before the attempt, he was warned by a DHS official about a Ukrainian assassination team operating in the U.S. “It’s concerning to me that days before this attempted assassination, I had someone from Homeland Security in my office warning me about a Ukrainian assassination team working in the country,” Gaetz said.

Gaetz also suggested that Routh might have received foreign funding or communications. “I think it’s more probable than not that this shooter had foreign contacts that were involved in financing some feature of his operation,” Gaetz said.

America First Legal Sues Secret Service, DHS Over Records
In the wake of the July 13 assassination attempt that grazed Trump’s head, America First Legal (AFL) has filed lawsuits against the Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security for withholding key documents. AFL had requested information through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) regarding potential staffing shortages, hiring standards, and communications involving top DHS officials like Secretary Alejandro Majorkas, Kristie Canegello, and Jonathan Davidson.

AFL claimed that the Secret Service denied its request for expedited processing, stating there was no immediate threat to anyone’s safety. However, AFL noted that the Secret Service had granted expedited processing for a separate FOIA request that used similar justifications.

Senate Demands Answers from Secret Service
Several lawmakers, including Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), have raised concerns over the lack of transparency regarding Trump’s security. Hawley recently introduced an amendment directing the Secret Service to release all relevant information about the July 13 attempt on Trump’s life, which passed unanimously in the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.
