What do you call a political system in which the ruling elite of the ‘Western World’ use non-democratic primary systems to ensure that the two people allowed to run in the general election are both acceptable to the existing ruling order? What do you call a system of government in which the real power lies not with elected officials but with unelected bureaucrats and careerists within our intelligence agencies?

Democracy is defined as “a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.”
Does the system I mentioned above fit that definition?
Understand that the Western World set up a ruling order consisting of international alliances. To protect those international alliances from swaying opinion, safeguards were put in place to ensure that whoever was elected in the most critical NATO countries would never threaten the alliance. In other words, NATO member states have a ruling class that pre-selects, through our primary system, who is allowed to run.
During the Cold War, the American people were united against communism, primarily in the form of the Soviet Union, but with the breakup of the Soviet Union, the need for NATO ended.
And yet NATO persists.
This system of governance in which we get a binary choice between two people, both of whom have been vetted by a ruling elite, is what we now call ‘Democracy,’ in spite of the fact that this definition has nothing to do with the actual definition of the word ‘Democracy.’
When the Soviet Union collapsed, Boris Yeltsin asked the United States for help converting Russia into a Western-style, free-market democracy. We told him to pound sand and immediately began expanding NATO — an alliance whose only purpose is to threaten Russia — into former Warsaw Block countries. We wanted war.
And now we have a proxy war in Ukraine where we can continue to bleed Russia until it breaks apart or until we end up in a nuclear war, whichever comes first.
Our two-party system used to be entirely on board with this arrangement until Donald Trump rode down a golden escalator in 2016 and announced that he was going to run for President. Nobody took him seriously, myself included, but he won, and in doing so, he proved that in America, at least, actual democracy (to the degree such a word can be used in the Democratic Republic) is still possible.
Trump also proved that actual democracy is a threat to the way the word ‘democracy’ is used today, and in doing so as a Republican and then re-aligning the Republican Party as a party in opposition to the ruling order, Donald Trump has made the entire party a threat to the ruling order.
Whether or not the 2024 election is the most important ever is a misnomer given that everyone calls every election ‘the most important ever,’ but make no mistake that if the Republican Party loses this election, the ruling elite will use the Democrats (whom they still control) to ‘safeguard democracy’ against actual democracy.
