North Carolina has become the latest battleground state to deny Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s request to have his name removed from the 2024 presidential ballot, even though he suspended his campaign last week and endorsed President Trump.

During a press conference in Phoenix last Friday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced his decision to exit the presidential race and urged his supporters to back Trump. Kennedy stated his intention to remain on the ballot in states where his presence would harm Kamala Harris, while removing his name from states where it could potentially hurt Trump’s chances.

“In about 10 battleground states, where my presence would be a spoiler, I’m going to remove my name. And I’ve already started that process and urge voters not to vote for me,” Kennedy said.

However, the North Carolina State Board of Elections voted on Thursday to keep Kennedy on the 2024 ballot, citing logistical and financial challenges. Despite Kennedy’s withdrawal, his name will still appear on the ballot in North Carolina, although votes cast for him will not be counted.

According to a report by WBTV, the North Carolina State Board of Elections made the decision due to the timing of Kennedy’s withdrawal, which came just as ballot printing had begun across the state. By the time of the board’s vote, approximately 1.73 million ballots had already been printed in over 60 counties, including special ballots for military personnel overseas and individuals with vision impairments.

Karen Brinson, the executive director of the state’s elections board, explained that reprinting and redistributing the ballots to remove Kennedy’s name would require at least 13 days and incur additional costs. Given the tight timeline and financial considerations, the board decided it was impractical to make the changes.

RFK Jr. will also remain on the presidential ballots in Michigan and Wisconsin, two other key battleground states. The decision to keep him on the ballot in these states is expected to have implications for the election, as Kennedy’s supporters are likely to shift their votes to President Trump.
