Former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson traveled to Russia this week to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin. The EU is considering a travel ban. Cries of treason come from the US.
Newsweek reports Tucker Carlson Could Face Sanctions Over Putin Interview
Carlson visited Russia this week, and on Tuesday revealed he would “soon” be releasing an interview with the Russian leader.

Carlson’s work in Russia could see the former Fox News host in hot water with the EU, Guy Verhofstadt, a former Belgian Prime Minister and current member of the European Parliament, told Newsweek.
The lawmaker—who has called for the EU to explore imposing a “travel ban” on Carlson—described Carlson as “a mouthpiece” of former President Donald Trump and Putin, adding: “As Putin is a war criminal and the EU sanctions all who assist him in that effort, it seems logical that the External Action Service examine his case as well.”
Luis Garicano, a former MEP, told Newsweek he agreed with Verhofstadt’s stance. “He is no longer a newsman, but a propagandist for the most heinous regime on European soil and the one which is most dangerous to our peace and security,” Garicano said of Carlson.
Explaining his motive for the interview, Carlson said in a video statement on Tuesday: “Most Americans have no idea why Putin invaded Ukraine or what his goals are now.” “We are not here because we love Vladimir Putin….We are not encouraging you to agree with what Putin may say in this interview, but we are urging you to watch it. You should know as much as you can.”
Deranged Response
Glenn Greenwald criticizes the proposed sanctions as deranged, also noting that “neocon elites” accuse Tucker of treason.
Neocon Elites
“Many prominent liberal and neocon elites – and that’s a repetitive phrase at this point – the overlap between conservative and liberals is almost full and complete. Basically, Neocons are the thought leaders of the Democratic party when it comes to foreign policy.”
I side with Greenwald for blasting warmongers in both parties. Importantly, Interviewing is what journalists do.
Whether or not you like Tucker or think he is being used, stifling the media is a scary response. Greenwald called it deranged.
