Lawyers for Sandy Hook families who sued Alex Jones say they will settle for $85 million over ten years. A judge initially ordered Jones to pay an astonishing $1.5 billion, because he said he believed the Sandy Hook shooting was a false flag staged to make the case for tighter gun controls. Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, subsequently filed for bankruptcy.
The lawyers complain Jones continues to live an “extravagant lifestyle”. They also complain he is not selling off his assets or preserving his estate’s value.

“Jones has failed in every way to serve as the fiduciary mandated by the Bankruptcy Code in exchange for the breathing spell he has enjoyed for almost a year. His time is up,” the lawyers wrote to the court overseeing his bankruptcy. They say Jones can either liquidate his estate or agree to hand over $8.5 million a year for a decade, plus half of any income over $9 million per year.
Jones’s bankruptcy lawyer, however, argues the proposed settlement is unreasonable.
“There are no financials that will ever show that Mr. Jones ever made [enough money to pay $85 milliom] in 10 years,” she says.
Jones has told the court the most he can manage is $4 million a year. This would be funded through sales of his supplements and merchandise, among other revenue streams. His operating costs are around $14.3 million, including his $520,000 salary.
