An apocalyptic Netflix movie executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama features a scene where one of the characters warns about the danger posed by “white people.”
Yes, really.
Leave the World Behind stars Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts and is an apocalyptic thriller about a family whose luxury getaway in Long Island is impacted by a nationwide blackout.

In the scene, two black characters are laying in bed as the woman states, “I’m asking for you to remember that if the world falls apart, trust should not be doled out easily to anyone, especially white people – even mom would agree with me on that.”

As part of his executive producer role, Barack Obama had a lot of input on the characters and “the events that unfolded on screen,” according to Esquire.
“Obama thought the script was fairly close to how a crisis would actually pan out in the real world,” said the film’s director Sam Esmail.
Some may question the narrative given what normally happens after actual catastrophes, such as Hurricane Katrina, which prompted mass looting.
Not much of it was done by white people.
The movie also takes a sly dig at Elon Musk by including a scene in which the main characters are “attacked by a fleet of driverless Teslas as they fly down an abandoned highway and crash into one another.”
Musk responded by pointing out, “Teslas can charge from solar panels even if the world goes fully Mad Max and there is no more gasoline!”
