The Internet, social media, and the massive proliferation of digital media were all billed as vehicles of transparency and the expansion of democracy and democratic values throughout the world. The Internet, social media, and digital media, we were told, would make the world smaller while making people ‘connected.
Instead, circa 2023, these forms of technology have been usurped by leftism – in its many illiberal, anti-democratic forms – and converted into tools of radicalization, indoctrination, and disinformation, manipulated by elite despots and totalitarians that corrupt and aim to ‘de-construct’ middle class values. Facebook, Google, YouTube, and TikTok are blatant examples of social and political control and groupthink. This has made the ruling elites richer while benefitting the denizens of illiberal radicalization.

Why do elite despots and totalitarians find it necessary to corrupt and destroy middle class values?
What is The Middle Class?
The middle class is the most critical and stabilizing cog at the center of Western democracies. The middle class regulates moral, spiritual, and cultural stability in democracies. The middle class is the cradle of citizenship in Western democracies. This has never been as important as it is today, given the blinding speed at which the ruling elites attack steadfast values with the aid of the latest technology. This is also why the middle class is the most pressing target of totalitarians today and throughout the twentieth century.
It was Western intellectuals and the moneyed class elites that propped up and funded the rise of Bolshevism in Russia, thus financing the formation of the Soviet Union.
During WWII, Western intellectuals continued to fund, spy for, do the bidding, and serve as fifth columnists for the Soviet Union. This was also the case throughout the Cold War, with the Soviet satellites in the Eastern Bloc, China, Cuba, Vietnam, etc.
After the fall of the Iron Curtain, Marxist intellectuals regrouped their theoretical focus. They developed new strategies for international communism under the guise of variant forms of Marxism – ‘deconstruction’ of middle class values is one of these – that aim to destroy Western civilization by attacking it from diverse angles. This can only be achieved by first corrupting the middle class.
One of Marxism’s most effective forms of disinformation and corruption of Western and Christian values was the creation of the culture war against Western civilization, brought about by the Marxist Frankfurt School, which became the theoretical foundation of international communism during the second half of the twentieth century. Today, the culture war continues to be amplified, now morphing into critical race theory – ‘critical’ means Marxist totalitarianism.
Why is there such vitriol against the middle class, given that it is the elite, moneyed class that creates the conditions and bankrolls violent, murderous social engineering in Western societies?
One answer is that the middle class is not subservient to elite intellectuals and their quest for totalitarianism.
Another reason is that the middle class fends off the corrosive attacks of woke and leftist elites – the moneyed class – while serving as guidance and a role model for the lower class.
Middle Class Values
Moral and spiritual values are staples of the middle class, in addition to non-conformity, integrity, honesty, and a life-affirming work ethic. These are values that are learned in stable homes. Stable family life threatens international communism because it keeps the totalitarian State from consolidating, thus centralizing power.
The middle class does not pretend that it can get what it desires by throwing tantrums of entitlement, fits of victimization, or through the promotion of self-serving moral perversion and the celebration of aberrant values.
Middle class values, when these are solidly grounded in life-affirming, permanent values and safeguarded from corruption through the cultivation of moral conviction, make people whole.
The middle class – not to confuse this with alleged up-and-coming, wannabe lackeys of the moneyed class – grounds people in the cultivation of and respect for having to make conscientious moral choices. That is, traditional middle class values take pride in embracing the road less traveled, not chic and trendy ‘causes.’
The middle class has always been a threat to leftism, Marxism, and opportunistic elites. Between Marxism and the moneyed class that bankrolls it, the middle class is left to fend off the corruption of the human person on its own through moral/spiritual principles.
The name that Marxism has for the elites that form the moneyed class is ‘the bourgeoise.’ Yet, this is blaring intellectual dishonesty, given that Marxist despotism originates with the elites of the moneyed class: the bourgeoisie. Strange bedfellows, aren’t they? Not at all. Consider that the corruption of constructive, traditional values requires a guiding hand that perpetually funds the corruption.
Corruption of the Middle Class
A guiding principle of societal corruption is to make public policy the aberrant values and destructive behavior that some people practice in their private lives. This serves to open the Pandora’s box of human depravity. This only leads to further totalitarian control of the human person.
