“FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF NUCLEAR MISSILE WEAPONRY, OUR COUNTRY HAS OVERTAKEN ITS COMPETITORS IN THIS FIELD AND HAS BECOME THE POSSESSOR OF UNIQUE STRATEGIC WEAPONS, INCLUDING HYPERSONIC WEAPONS, WHICH WILL ENSURE SECURITY FOR DECADES TO COME,” PATRUSHEV STRESSED.

The United States announced the most recent version of its nuclear strategy on October 27, 2022, mentioning the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and pledging to push through the treaty’s ratification despite “significant obstacles” in the process.

Sergey Ryabkov, the deputy foreign minister of Russia, stated in March 2023 that the CTBT scenario is becoming more concerning due to US measures.

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, stated at a meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club on October 5, 2022, that his country could follow the US lead and revoke its own ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

Subsequently, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) was withdrawn from Russian ratification by law, which was later signed by the president of Russia and posted on the official legal acts website. On October 13, this initiative was presented to the Russian Parliament.

The United States conducted underground tests at the Nevada Test Site, where nuclear weapons have already been detonated, on October 18, the day the State Duma deputies passed the initiative.
