Many of you, my readers and listeners, have deep core convictions. These convictions include, as parents, a responsibility to educate their children in the best way they deem appropriate. The Romeike family is no different.
The Romeike family fled Germany in 2008 after two years of persecution by the German government. In 2006, the family made the decision to homeschool their children based upon their deeply held religious belief they were responsible to God for their children’s education. They also had growing concerns about the anti-Christian and sexualized elements of the public school curricula in Germany.

The German government responded harshly “by leveling fines that would eventually exceed the family’s income, forcibly removing the children from the home to take them to school, and threatening to remove the children from the home permanently.”
Since entering the country legally, the family has endured obstacles set in place by our own government. These obstacles are determined to deport the family back to Germany. One such obstacle recently caught the family off guard when immigration officials ordered them to prepare to self-deport within four weeks.
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), in a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, “blasted the Biden administration for applying ‘two standards of justice.’” She stated the “Biden administration has targeted the Romeike family while illegal immigrants flood across the southern border at record levels.”
The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSDLA) has been actively defending the family since their arrival to America 15 years ago. The organization recently posted on social media the following:
“Thank you for your prayers and support for the Romeike family. This morning, the Romeike family and our attorney, Kevin Boden, met with ICE staff in Tennessee, where they signed the paperwork to extend their stay in the United States for another year.”
The social media post continued by quoting Kevin Boden: “This is our first victory. HSLDA is pleased that ICE has granted a one-year stay. The Romeike family has been given a reprieve, and we will continue to work on their behalf for a permanent solution.”
