The World Climate Declaration Says, “There Is No Climate Emergency!”

“There is no climate emergency. Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific. Scientists should openly address uncertainties and exaggerations in their predictions of global warming, while politicians should dispassionately count the real costs as well as the imagined benefits of their policy measures.”

So starts the “World Climate Declaration,” signed by 1,609 scientists, engineers, and other experts in over 30 countries, including 321 from America and two Nobel Laureates. The Declaration was initiated by Guus Berkhout, emeritus professor in physics and seismic imaging at Delft University of Technology,

The Netherlands, as a one-page summary of the view of many climate realists in the world. It is a living document that is often changed based on input from its ambassadors and other experts. It is published by the Climate Intelligence Foundation (CLINTEL), a group of several hundred scientists largely based in Europe, founded in 2019 by Berkhout and science journalist Marcel Crok. Experts interested in signing should complete the form at World Climate Declaration Form – Clintel.

It is remarkable that so many well-qualified experts are prepared to sign onto this important document. After all, we hear it over and over from politicians, media, and activists the world over, “Scientists agree — humans are causing a global climate crisis! We must reduce greenhouse gas emissions so that the ‘global average temperature’ is held to no more than 1.5 degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels or we are all doomed!”

Ignoring the fact that there is no such thing as a “global average temperature” and that the rise in this fictitious temperature wouldn’t matter anyway (a topic for another day), there are undoubtedly many more than sixteen hundred scientists who recognize that this is dangerous nonsense. The problem is, that most are either personally or professionally (or both) afraid to say anything at all.

For example, in a recent television interview, I mentioned a leading university scientist who has thoroughly debunked the climate scare with solid, cutting-edge research. The next day he asked me to never mention him again in the press. His dean and president were apparently having conniption fits, undoubtedly in frightened response to calls from local climate activists.

Or, how about the five death threats and intense lawsuits directed against climate realist historical climatologist the late Dr. Tim Ball, who was previously our lead scientist? Or another one of our experts whose director wouldn’t even submit his research to the journals because it contradicted what the politician heading his government department had previously said? I cannot name him since he received racist death threats against his family for allowing the publication of scientific papers that went against the politically correct narrative.

I am aware of a number of other stories like this as well — scientists fired, threatened (in one case, activists apparently killing their dog) — none of which I can describe in detail without revealing the victim’s identity and so increasing the danger to them and their families.

In her interview with John Stossel, broadcast on August 8, 2023, Dr. Judith Curry, Professor Emeritus and former chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology, explained part of what is happening.

“Ten years ago, the editor of the journal Science, she wrote this political rant about how we need to stop emissions now — that was published in Science. So what kind of message does that give: promote the alarming papers, and don’t even send the other papers out for review,” said Curry.
