Last year, Old Dominion University placed Allyn Walker on administrative leave after a chat with the Prostasia Foundation in which he claimed that being sexually interested in children isn’t necessarily wrong. Walker’s book about “Minor-Attracted People and Their Pursuit of Dignity” is typical of the efforts to excuse pedophilia that are promoted by the Prostasia Foundation.

And Old Dominion University apparently has higher standards than the IRS.
While the IRS has targeted a variety of Christian and conservative nonprofits, including Christians Engaged in 2021, the Prostasia Foundation continues to enjoy nonprofit status.
Prostasia claims that it serves “children and youth” and “victims of crime and abuse”.
Its idea of serving children and child abuse victims was protesting guidelines banning child sex dolls and depictions of child pornography. Prostasia claimed that interfering with “the personal and private use of sex toys violates the Constitution” and argued that a ban on child sex toys might remove “a victimless outlet for some people who might otherwise target a real child”. It complained that proposals outlawing depictions of child pornography are “drenched in sex-negativity”.
The organization insists that it is focused on “rational” efforts to prevent the exploitation of children while respecting the “human rights” of pedophiles. Critics say that it is mainstreaming pedophilia by treating it as an avenue of sexual expression while lobbying to decriminalize sexual content depicting children. And they may have good reason to worry.
The Foundation is raising money for “research” into “the use of fictional or fantasy sexual outlets (e.g., sex dolls, cartoons, fictional stories) among people who have sexual attractions to children” to “promote greater wellbeing among individuals attracted to children”.
This research, involving New York’s SUNY University and the UK’s Nottingham Trent University, will study the use of “materials produced for a sexual purpose” that “feature child-like characters or stimuli” by pedophiles with “no restriction on offense history”. No restrictions on offense history could potentially include pedophiles who have been convicted of abusing children.
It is difficult to see how this project could be conducted without enabling criminal activity.
Section 62 of the British Coroners and Justice Act 2009 prohibits all obscene images of children: including art and computer generated materials. While the Supreme Court’s liberal justices, Kennedy, Stevens, Souter, Ginsburg, Breyer, defended the right to fictional child pornography in Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition (a group that Prostasia appears to have ties to), the PROTECT Act of 2003 closed that loophole for Americans.
The Prostasia Foundation research sounds as if it would be surveying pedophiles to see if they’re consuming virtual child pornography or engaging in even more criminal acts.
There’s no sign that this information would be passed on to law enforcement authorities.
IRS regulations specifically state that “exempt purposes may generally be equated with the public good, and violations of law are the antithesis of the public good”. They clearly lay out that, “violation of constitutionally valid laws is inconsistent with exemption under IRC 501(c)(3)” and that “planned activities that violate laws are not in furtherance of a charitable purpose.”
It’s hard to imagine anything more antithetical to the public good than pedophilia.
(Notably, SUNY and Nottingham Trent are both public universities funded by taxpayers so that taxpayers are not just funding Prostasia through its tax-exempt status, but also its research .)
And there are even more troubling issues with the Prostasia Foundation. Critics noted that, “Prostasia began collaborating with an organization it calls the MAP Support Club, an unregistered group which claims to provide ‘peer support’ for pedophiles, and invites ‘minor attracted people’ aged 13 years old and up to participate in online chats about ‘minor attraction.’”
MAP, meaning Minor-Attracted Persons, is the preferred woke euphemism for pedophiles.
But it’s not just the IRS.
