Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk is poised to see his $44 billion takeover deal for Twitter close, potentially as early as this week.
As Musk has fought off legal challenges to close the deal, including a bid at one time to back out over fake accounts that arguably inflated the value of the company, it hardly seemed real that he would be able to pull it off.

As late in the game as last week, there were rumblings that the Biden administration was scrambling to halt the deal with a “national security review,” based purportedly on the premise that Musk had been serving as a liaison for the Putin regime.
This dubious pretense has been all but shattered, as Musk’s attempt at even-handed diplomacy to prevent a looming “World War III” has been largely echoed by 30 Democrats in a recent letter to the White House. If you’re going to foment a “Russia Collusion 2.0” narrative about Elon Musk, it would be wise not to implicate yourselves (as Hillary Clinton did vis-a-vis Donald Trump). Nonetheless, the Biden administration has denied it is conducting such a “national security review” (although it would also deny that water is wet if it were politically expedient).
Now that the deal is on the brink of happening, the impending scenario of working under a Twitter owner who actually believes in free speech is posing a massive reality check for coddled millennials who have spent years in college insulated from people with different beliefs and values.
Even more sobering is that Elon Musk reportedly plans to axe 75% of the Twitter thought police who have served as the digital vanguard for the Democratic Party and left-wing progressives for years.
