Pelosi: By Insisting on a Wall, Trump Is Showing ‘Weakness’ on Border Control

by Susan Jones, CNSnews:

“The Democrats do not support the wall,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

“The president, I think, talking about this wall, is expressing a sign of weakness. He’s saying, I can’t control our borders. I have to build a wall. We certainly would like to — we have a responsibility to control our borders. Building a wall is not an answer, not here or anyplace.”

If the Trump administration insists on funding for his promised border wall in the current fiscal year, they’ll be the ones to shut down the government, Pelosi said.

“The Republicans have the votes in the House and the Senate and the White House to keep government open. The burden to keep it open is on the Republicans.

“The wall is, in my view, immoral, expensive, unwise and when the president says, well, I promised a wall during my campaigns, I don’t think he said he was going to pass billions of dollars of cost of the wall onto the taxpayer.”

President Trump is requesting $1.4 billion to start work on a border wall as part of a funding bill that will keep the government operating from April 28 – this Friday – through September.

Democrats say the legislation must not contain “poison pill” items, including the border wall, or they will block it and blame Republicans.
