Commenting on the view of White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon that the liberal media are the “opposition party” to the Trump administration, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said they are not just opposing the administration but they are “hostile to the vast majority of Americans,” and are the “mouthpiece of the left in this country.”
During a Jan. 31 interview on Breitbart News Daily, host Alex Marlow remarked, “Steve Bannon went on record that he considers the mainstream media in America the opposition party to the administration. That is something we agree with wholeheartedly at Breitbart News.“
Tony Perkins said, “Well, they’re not just the opposition party to the administration. They have been hostile to the vast majority of Americans and they have silenced Americans, especially in the last eight years.”
“I watched that evolution as they became the mouthpiece of Barack Obama and the left in this country,” he said, “and they have shamed and marginalized the average American.”
“And I think that’s in large part what gave rise to Donald Trump’s success is that people saw someone who would stand up against the mainstream press, and they’re coming in behind him,” said Perkins. “And so that’s where I think that the wind in the sails of Donald Trump are the vast majority of Americans who feel marginalized and intimidated by the media.”
