10 Cancer Causing Foods You Probably Eat Every Day

You’ve probably heard of foods that reduce risk of cancer. Well, as you would expect, there are others that increase risk of cancer. Sadly, the intake of these foods is increasing day by day. Here are some of the cancer causing foods you should avoid.

1. Microwave popcorn

This convenient healthy snack seems harmless, doesn’t it? The truth is, the popcorn itself is not the problem but the bag it’s packed in. These bags are lined with a chemical called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). And one study found that PFOA caused infertility in women.

2. Processed meats

Processed meats such as bacon, sausages, hot dogs and so on, can cause serious health problems if eaten long term. A recent study found that people who ate 160+ grams of processed meat every day had a 44 percent higher chance of dying in the next 12 years.

3. Canned tomatoes

All canned foods can increase risk of cancer due to the chemical bisphenol-a (BPA) found in can linings. But the acidity of tomatoes is more likely to dissolve more BPA in the food. Generally you want to stay away from all canned foods.

4. Grilled red meat

The molecular and chemical structure of meat changes when it’s grilled for long. While grilled meat is tasty, you’re better off broiling or baking meat.

5. Soda and carbonated beverages

You’ve probably heard soda being associated with cancer before. Sodas contain dyes and chemicals that very harmful to your health. And you’re not safe with diet soda, it is just as bad.

6. Hydrogenated oils

The process of extracting oils from their sources adds chemicals to them. Not only that, manufacturers add chemicals to make the tastier. These oils are also loaded with omega 3s which has been linked to cancer, arthritis, cardiovascular disease and so on.

Cook with healthy oils like olive oil and coconut oil.

7. Genetically modified foods

The rapid increase of GMOs in the market is a major concern. In fact, most of the GMO products haven’t gone through proper testing. Try to avoid these foods as much as possible. Buy non-GMO and organic foods.

8. Farmed fish

Fish farmed in large scale are fed all sorts of chemicals, pesticides, antibiotics and so on. Only eat wild caught fish or fish bred in clean environment. Even when buying fish oil make sure it’s from wild caught fish.

9. Refined sugar

Refined sugars like corn syrup are the leading cancer causing foods. Refined sugar or foods with added sugar feed the growth of cancer cells. Note that sugar is found in 75 percent of processed foods, so don’t forget to read labels.

10. Alcohol

Drinking at least one alcoholic beverage a day has shown to increase risk of breast cancer in women by 30 percent. In fact, alcohol is the second leading cause of cancer after tobacco.
