    I just did a bit of “Googling” to learn about “private jet” charter rates, and you gotta pay from $1,500 to more than $6,000 PER HOUR of flight time for your seat.

    The prices change depending upon what type of plane it is (bigger planes, bigger fees).

    This type of service is not for the common man.

    Looking at USED plane prices (for those people who actually have places to go, things to do, and money to burn), I really like the bigger planes like the Beechcraft King Air 350 (Seats 9 people, flies at about 350mph, range of up to 1800 miles. Piper makes a similar plane.

    Prices for the used planes, runs from $600k to about $3.5 million (depending on how old/new and how many HOURS on it, and how soon it will need an expensive overhaul, new props, windshields, engine work, etc.)

    There are plenty of smaller planes out there, on sites such as “trade a plane” etc. (Just like you can buy excavating equipment at “rock and dirt”, GUNS at “Shotgun News”, etc.)

    It’s fun to “window shop” on all kinds of toys. I imagine AFTER the crash arrives and things get bad, there will be a LOT of expensive “toys” for sale REAL cheap, probably as low as just 10% of the normal asking price. So you may be able to “score” a $2 million dollar item, for just $200k (also known as 200 troy ounces of silver when it hits the “fabled” $1,000 per ounce.)

      But once one has one of these rich-man toys, then they have to have someone who can and will fly it, not to mention LOTS of fuel. These things really guzzle the gas. If you own a producing oil well, then no problem. The rest of us would tire of those $3500 fill-ups pretty quickly. lol

        Here’s a very ‘sexy looking’ twin turboprop PUSHER configuration (a bit pricey), but has some very interesting specs.

        standard fuel tanks= 1400+ mile range (bigger tanks= 1700+ range)

        Cruising Speed 455MPH. At economy Cruise (410MPH), it consumes a tiny bit LESS than 100 gallons per hour (BOTH engines). claimed to be 40% less consumption than small jets in the same class.

        Seats up to 9 passengers. Because the engines are “rear mounted” pushers, the cabin noise is quieter, etc.

        The company also makes a military variant with bigger wing span (reduced wing loading).

        It takes Jet-A (at MY local airport sells for $3.04-$3.65 depending on which airport (some are as high as $4.30).

        But if you use the average price of $3.50/gallon and 100 gallons per hour doing 410mph, this plane’s fuel costs are $350 to travel 410 miles. Pretty stingy for a 9 passenger plane going pretty near to small jet speeds, and a lot less fuel.

        But I don’t have enough places to go, or things to do, so I have no need of such things.

        A nice 25 foot mini motor home would be very useful, or even a slide-in camper on a diesel pickup.

    And “whale tech” (tubercles), bumps on the leading edge of airfoils is shown to improve efficiency by up to 20%.

    This would be an exciting improvement for props, wings and turbine blades.

    I’m reading about “shark skin riblets” This site says some testing shows a 10% drag reduction when applied to an aircraft model in wind tunnel tests.

    If all those tricks could be successfully added to airplane designs, that would be great.

    I can imagine perhaps same speed at 20% less power or fuel, or greater speeds, and the tubercles show a vast improvement in stall speeds etc.
