HEY OBAMA, WHAT “RECOVERY”? Caterpillar Retail Sales Decline For 43 Consecutive Months

from Zero Hedge:

There was a time when Caterpillar was considered a key bellwether for trends in global heavy industries, and thus a proxy for the manufacturing sector. However, over the past 3 years that has not been the case for one simple reason: if one looks only at trends revealed by CAT’s retail sales the global economy has been mired not in a recession but an unprecedented depression, one which has now lasted some 43 months. That’s how long CAT has gone without a single positive month in global retail sales, well over double the duration of the acute collapse in demand following the financial crisis.

Anyone needing to know how the world economy is doing can simply look at a chart of the Baltic Dry Index. This was often touted as the be-all and end-all of measurements of world industrial production. While this is a shipping index, everything that gets produced HAS to be shipped somewhere so the people there can buy those things.

But it is almost never mentioned these days. And why is that? Because it is down nearly 94% from its 2008 all time high of 11,450… all the way down to 709. This is a HUGE indicator of a collapsing world economy. The US is part of the world economy and all of the funny numbers created by the Fed and the US Gov cannot put this Humpty Dumpty back together again. They know this, which is why the BDI is now excluded from the official narrative. If it was not, well, people just might learn the truth of how f***ed we are economically, and we just can’t have that, now can we?
