Texas Governor Calls For Constitutional Convention To “Wrest Power” From Obama

from Zero Hedge:

“The increasingly frequent departures from Constitutional principles are destroying the Rule of Law foundation on which this country was built… The cure to these problems will not come from Washington D.C. Instead, the states must lead the way. The irony for our generation is that the threat to our Republic doesn’t come just from foreign enemies,it comes, in part, from our very own leaders.”

Texas governor Greg Abbott

When it comes to Texas’ relationship with the Federal government, the word “rocky” comes to mind. And nobody embodies said rockiness better than Texas governor Greg Abbott, who recently made headlines after announcing that irrelevant of D.C.’s demands, Texas would refuse to accept any Syrian refugees.

This followed his announcement earlier this summer 2015 when fears over nebulous Federal intentions with operation “Jade Helm” were running high, that “to address concerns that Texas citizens and to ensure that Texas communities remain safe, secure, and informed about military procedures occurring in their vicinity, I am directing the state guard to monitor Operation Jade Helm 15.”

Prior to this, Abbott was again in the news back in June when he signed a bill into law that would allow Texas to build a gold and silver bullion depository, which would allow Texas to repatriate $1 billion worth of bullion from the New York Fed to the new facility once completed.

In short: the Federal government and the state of Texas have been on collision course of many months, one which culminated on Friday when Abbott called for a Constitutional Convention of states, spearheaded by Texas, and which would amend the U.S. Constitution to wrest power from a federal government “run amok.”

To achieve that, Abbott proposed nine amendments to “restore the Rule of Law and return the Constitution to its intended purpose.”

“If we are going to fight for, protect and hand on to the next generation, the freedom that [President] Reagan spoke of … then we have to take the lead to restore the rule of law in America,” Abbott said, cited by the Dallas News, during a speech at the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Policy Orientation that drew raucous applause from the conservative audience. He said he will ask lawmakers to pass a bill authorizing Texas to join other states calling for a Convention of States.

According to the Hill, Abbott said that “the increasingly frequent departures from Constitutional principles are destroying the Rule of Law foundation on which this country was built,” said Abbott in a statement. We are succumbing to the caprice of man that our Founders fought to escape. The cure to these problems will not come from Washington D.C. Instead, the states must lead the way.”

Along with the speech, Abbott released a nearly 70-page plan – part American civics lesson, part anti-Obama diatribe – detailing nine proposed constitutional amendments that he said “would unravel the federal government’s decades-long power grab and restore authority over economic regulation and other matters to the states.”

The irony for our generation is that the threat to our Republic doesn’t come just from foreign enemies, it comes, in part, from our very own leaders,” Abbott said in a speech that took aim at President Obama, Congress and the judicial branch.

With all due respect to Greg Abbott, he is a LAWYER.

“Gregory Wayne Abbott (born November 13, 1957) is an American lawyer and politician, and currently serves as the 48th Governor of Texas. He was the 50th Attorney General of Texas and is a Republican.”

He thinks like a lawyer and, therefore, he lacks solid common sense, as in: “Less is better”. Throwing new laws to any old problem has NEVER resolved it. When the American people recognize that what is choking them is not the ABSENCE of laws but the EXCESS of them, especially in the presence of a perfectly solid constitution already acknowledging the supremacy of each state, they will take the necessary step of… removing LAWYERS from public office and forcing them to STFU!

Jeez… Hasn’t humanity been dealing with that same issue for eons? Could we finally get past that?

10 universal commandments (found in every culture, mind you, regardless of whatever allegory behind them in order to justify their unknown origin but yet having promoted human life for 200,000 years) turned into… thousands of “laws and traditions” in every single culture and brought confusion and strife everywhere.

The Hebrew were (tentatively) redirected to… 10 commandments once and fucked it up badly right away. Again.

I sympathize with Abbott’s genuine intent. His strategy is flawed. Again.

    Less is better. Period.

Agreed. The primary problem with the US and other developed countries is that we are all suffering from a toxic overdose of government. More government, in any form, is NOT the answer and hasn’t been the answer for a good long while now. But government is infested with a lot of people who get everything they have from and via government, so in their minds (?), government is the source of all things good and anyone who thinks otherwise is directly assaulting them personally. That this is not the case eludes them.

IMO, ALL government should be cut to 1/2 of what it is today. Once that has been done and the system settles, we need to analyze the results of that and prepare for additional cuts. They very likely will be needed.

Additionally, we will need to reduce the size and scope of the US military. Yes, we can and should have maybe a dozen or so forward bases around the world. But we do not need 800 or so bases in other countries. That is a hideous waste of financial resources that could be put to MUCH better use in other areas.

Our men and women in the military have been terrific and I salute them for their service and sacrifice. But they have been given short shrift by this and most previous US administrations. The problems with the VA hospitals has been identified for some time but not fixed. WHY NOT??? It should be fixed ASAP and not dragged out like this. People who deserve better treatment are hurting and dying while these damned politicians continue to fart around with this. I guarantee you that if they and their family members had to go to VA hospitals for their care, this situation would not be miserable like it is today. Same with this ridiculous Obamunist Care. If it is so f***ing great, why don’t THEY have it too??? Everyone who voted for this miserable s**t in congress should be REQUIRED to have it.

Border control is essential as is controlling immigration, yet this and previous administrations have dropped the ball on both of these issues, mainly because they haven’t got the guts to man-up and handle tough problems. This is exactly why these politicians have been hired… not to enrich themselves at our expense or to have a cushy job but to successfully handle and resolve difficult issues… and they are not doing that. If any of us did our jobs like they do, we would deserve to be fired and we would be… and quickly at that.

They excel at becoming rich from their political positions, taking junkets (read vacations) all over the world, often with several family members, taking bribes from lobbyists and other crooks, using insider information for their “investments” (such as Hellery’s cattle futures scam), and generally showing up but failing to do what they were hired to do.

I’d like to see them all investigated and, where appropriate, charged with the felony crimes they have committed, their assets seized, and if convicted by a jury of citizens, put in jail for their many crimes. Some hard labor aspect to their punishment also seems appropriate. They can grow their own food on the prison farm, for example, and use basic hand-powered tools to do it.

In no case should they ever be allowed to hold any position in government ever again. They have had their turn at the trough and they have most thoroughly f***ed it up.
