For better or worse, much of the media attention paid to the first Republican presidential primary debate centered on headline-grabbing candidate Donald Trump’s performance.
While some speculated the brash billionaire would lose fans following his performance Thursday evening, others believed his blunt message would instead add more to his impressive early lead within the crowded field.
Some experts warn against putting stock in poll performances in favor of analyzing the candidates’ individual favorability numbers. According to one post-debate poll, however, Trump did not immediately lose any of the lead he had prior to the debate and his public criticism of moderator Megyn Kelly.

Dubbing him the true “Teflon Don,” Breitbart’s Matthew Boyle presented the results of a recent Morning Consult poll showing Trump expanding on his lead to earn support from nearly one-third of all respondents. The remaining 16 candidates shared much smaller portions of the remaining 68 percent.
