Open Carry Bill Clears Texas Legislature, Governor Promises to Sign

by Adan Salazar, Infowars:

A bill allowing the licensed open carry of a handgun has passed the Texas legislature, with newly-elected Governor Greg Abbott promising to sign the repeal of a law that dates back to the post-civil war era. The controversial bill was backed by the National Rifle Association, as noted in the governor’s tweet.

“HB 910 removes the requirement that Concealed Handgun Licensees (CHL) keep their handguns concealed and gives them the option of carrying them either wholly or partially visible in a belt or shoulder holster,” the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action wrote last month.

“The House gave final approval on a mostly party-line 102-43 vote, drawing gleeful whistles from some lawmakers. A short time later, the Senate passed it 20-11, also along party lines, with all Republicans supporting it and all Democrats opposing,” reports the Associated Press.

A step in the right, er correct direction…I’m sure Texans will want Constitutional carry ie without license, as the next correct step to regain their full 2nd A unalienable rights back!

    Bravo Texas 🙂

Agreed, Sam. The State of Maine seems to be moving in that direction via now voting on elimination of their concealed carry license. If this passes, and it looks as if it will, any Maine resident who can legally own a firearm can carry it with them without the need for a license. That too is a step in the right direction.

It is interesting that the Dem party still clings to the notion that guns are inherently bad and that restricting, or better yet eliminating, the people’s right to defend themselves from vicious criminals is good. All evidence collected to date on this issue supports the removal of laws that restrict how people can defend themselves and that more guns in the hands of the people results in fewer not more crimes. Gun control and its MANY laws are not about reducing crime but about control of those who obey the law. Those who routinely break the law, such as the career criminal element in our society, do not give a damn about the law… ANY law… and ignore them routinely.

The bottom line is that there really are people out there who need to get shot and who will not be satisfied until they are. If the courts were doing a good job of protecting us from these savages, maybe the people would not feel as strong a need to protect themselves.

I carry a gun with me about 1/2 the time I go out. I am licensed by the state to carry it via a permit issued by my county sheriff. WA State is a “must issue” state, so there is no picking and choosing as to who can and cannot get a permit to carry a gun here. If one is not prohibited from owning a gun, then one can carry a concealed weapon here legally IF they have a permit.

I know that some out there hate the idea of having to get a permit but it is the law here and obeying the law is a great way NOT to be in jail when the SHTF. Don’t be in jail when that happens because if you are, no one will be looking out for you. You will simply be left in a cell to die of thirst when the jail employees run off to protect their own families… as many of the police did during hurricane Katrina. Now, imagine 1,000s of towns and cities where this happens all at the same time. To say that it would be a GD mess would be an understatement.
