I am focused on how hard it is for the world to get its act together, and how hard it is to start a recovery that is self-sustaining. The situation in Europe is getting dire. Germany reported yesterday that their GDP declined. Well, In the West a recession is a very, very serious thing. In the West if you get a recession you begin to see extreme right and left politicians getting a tremendous amount of support. I guess the most visible example would be in France.
But when you look at Putin’s popularity, despite the fact that the economy is slipping, it’s unbelievably high. A Gallup poll just had Putin’s popularity at an astounding 90 percent. This just shows that there is a different dynamic as to what makes people happy in different parts of the world.
