As we all wait and watch for the next developments in Ukraine as well as the other potential geopolitical conflicts around the world, it is important to remember that these things frequently start by “design,” but then turn into chaos and irrationality resulting in mass destruction driven by megalomania, national pride and testosterone….
During World War I, a series of battles were fought near the Isonzo River. As many as 12 battles were waged along the river as the Italian Army and the Austro-Hungarian Army struggled to hold their lines. The Italians had been promised what is now Slovenia via the secret Treaty of London in 1915, and they were determined to seize their prize.
