An Open Letter To American Christians

by Allan Erickson, Western Journalism:

Dear Christians,
What in the H E double hockey sticks is the matter with you people!?

Do you think being involved in public policy and elections and all that earthy stuff is somehow antithetical to the spirit walk? I’m glad Jesus cared enough about earthy stuff to come here and save our sorry tails. Didn’t he say something about taking care of the weak and defenseless and being salt and light in the world?

People get so heavenly minded that they’re no earthly good, as the old saying goes. What is it, folks? Are you too busy stuffing your faces and watching television? Maybe video games have you so hypnotized you can’t leave the house? Porn addiction?

Do you really think your spiritual duty is fulfilled by going to church once a week and dropping a fiver in the plate?

I think that the Bible says: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelation+18&version=NKJV

You seem to be admonishing people for not being participants in an evil system. Is there a conflict here?

Not everybody that claims to be Christian is a Christian. And until “he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.”, (DT 33:27) then the appointed King remains, for “…He changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings: He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:” (Dan 2:20) has not been superseded by man.

Not all who call Me Lord, Lord shall enter the Kingdom of God, but those who do the will of My Father. Matt. 7:21. That is some of the problem you make reference to.

But a bigger issue is people misunderstanding the mission of Christ. It Was not a social gosple to make the world a better place to go to he’ll from. Jesus promised this world would be full of trouble, especially for those that believe. John 16:33.

I think that some have misunderstood the article. Seriously. Lmo – yes, everyone that claims to be a Christian is not a Christian. But I know a number of real Christians that don’t seem to “get it”.

Ldh – it isn’t a misunderstanding of the mission of Christ (Altho, that might be a part of the problem for some) – but rather a misunderstanding of what it means to be a Christian. To wit:”Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

The church (in general, with a few exceptions), has become so like the world that in it’s role as “salt”, has lost it’s flavor.

I look at most churches these days and see either 1 of two possible outcomes – 1) the church has been so effective that they have influenced the world to the point that the world looks like the church … or 2) the world has influence the church. My guess is that it’s option #2.

If the church (and the people in it – again speaking generally now), were to return to it’s first love, were to be about the things it is supposed to be about, in a biblical manner, yes, there would be trouble, but we would be providing for those that are destitute, the hungry, those needing medical care – not the state (gov’t). We would be influencing and participating in government in a positive manner, pushing the system from the evil and corruption that it embodies currently. After all, “All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

A large problem in the church is that it had bought into the idea that it has no place in “public” society; that it is supposed to be quiet and defer in all things secular – that there can be no “Christian World View” allowed in the public square.

And this has landed us exactly where we are.
