A Slight Whiff of Corruption?
It often does matter who one is friends with. Readers are probably aware that the most immediately obvious failure of the Unaffordable Health Care Act is that the web site which people are supposed to use to enroll just doesn’t work properly (googling “healthcare.gov website problems” gives you 382 million results, so there seems to be a lot going wrong).
This is quite astonishing given that the contract for creating the enrollment web site was worth $678 million. If they had given that kind of money to us, we would have made a subcontractor very happy by paying him $100m. to create a well working web site, while we would have made off to sip Pina Coladas on our newly acquired private island in the Caribbean. While we cannot really say with certainty what costs would be involved in creating this particular site, $678 million for an enrollment site does strike us as rather generous.
