Prepping: The only thing necessary for the triumph of EVIL is for good men to do nothing

by Joe McMaster, Freedom Outpost:

When the SHTF are you ready?

A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; But the simple pass on, and suffer for it. –Proverbs 22:3

The only thing necessary for the triumph of EVIL is for good men to do nothing, Edmund Burke

As an instructor and combat veteran working in survival and prepping I get a lot of different questions about what to get and in what order, priorities. The answer varies from person to person because of their many different experiences. For instance if a Force Recon Marine was caught in a bad situation but managed to have a 22. rifle, he’d probably do just fine for awhile. However most folks aren’t Recon Marines. It comes down to what you have, what your background is, who your with and their background(s) and whether you have a plan or not.

“When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.”
This is a Burke quote. There is no evidence that Burke ever said what has been attributed to him in the article above.

I neither know nor care about Burke and what he did or did not say. It is irrelevant to the current discussion. What does matter is that this is a pretty decent article that covers a number of important concepts. Hopefully those who can benefit most from them will pay some attention to it. If not, then they will have much in common with road kill when the time comes to put up or shut up.

My only disagreement with the article is the choice of weapons. Most are fine but the AK type rifles are better for SHTF scenarios than the little 5.56 mm. Half of the states out there don’t even allow 5.56 mm to be used on black tail deer. If it’s not recommended for use on a timid 100 lb. deer, why use it on a 200 lb. aggressive man? The AK is also a better penetrator against body armor and vehicles. The bigger but slower bullet will penetrate most vehicles and in multiple locations. This is better than the AR bullets that tend to blow up on contact with a vehicle. Yes, they will go through sheet metal and most glass but that’s about it. AK ammo is also cheap and plentiful and the rifles are rugged and easy to maintain. Either is better than none but make mine an AK. 🙂
