by Mark S. Mann,
Hello Friends, Sean, Rory and I had been emailing about the on-going EBT / SNAP card issue. We wanted to do a video segment on this. However due to time and travel constraints for each of us, and the potential serious nature of the situation, we thought it best not to wait, and to put this material into an article format for SGT Report, ASAP. So I’ve decided to stick my head out to discuss my take on the EBT debacle, because I feel this is one of the most important developing news issues we have seen in a while.
As for “Glitches”, if you’re not up to speed on with what has occurred, please look at the news stream on SGT Report going back to this past Saturday and you will see several posts on this topic. Disturbingly, there is news that there will be no funding for November benefits to EBT-Food Stamp recipients (without a debt ceiling deal). Imagine the chaos that will result from NO food being available to those who are truly desperate for it.
And CHECK THIS OUT for a EBT “Glitch” story from the main stream media. In one case, a EBT “Glitch” caused spending limits to be removed for some EBT card holders which resulted in people raiding stores, loading carts and emptying shelves for “free” food. And all this in a time of relative peace in America. Just wait until the S really HTF.
Was this a small scale test by TPTB to measure the public’s reaction? Was it part of the Political Theatre currently being played out in DC with the government shutdown? What other financial “outages” will be blamed on “software upgrades” or “glitches”? (We just heard this was the reason for temporary closure of The National Bank of Panama 2 weeks ago)… OR…when will they start blaming cyber “Terrorism” for something like this? Is this a test to see what people will do when the music stops? Are they doing it small scale to intentionally scare people for the usual “Powers That Be” head fake strategy of problem, reaction, solution? I guess we will know very soon, as November 1st is less than 2 weeks away. If you have done nothing to prepare, this could potentially be a last warning.
Let’s briefly address some of the following issues:
1.) Stores were out of food in HOURS , NOT in 2-3 days as many “experts” in the “prepper” / survival community have advised would be the case, given a crisis. What else can you say about this? This did happen, and is now a matter of historical record.
2.) A tiny fraction of the local population was able to strip all food resources clean in some areas where this occurred. Imagine if EVERYONE was doing the same thing in these areas? Not just those people looking to use their EBT / SNAP cards? How long would it take to strip the shelves clean if the entire local population was going for the same resources at once. Imagine the chaos. This is why you need to be prepared NOW! For those that think they will have the time to go out and get what they need when the SHTF, think again. Even if you have cash on hand to get what you think you may need, even if you do, how much can you fit into 1-2 shopping carts?
3.) The retail stores were totally unprepared to deal with the situation in every regard. There was no warning to merchants that there was a problem. My guess is that if this happened on a larger scale, for a prolonged length of time, we would see retailers putting their own limits in place as to how much they allow people to purchase at once in order to prevent people from hoarding their limited stock / supplies. This was my personal experience during the 2004-2005 Hurricane Season in Florida. Customers were allowed entry into a store and were limited to $60 of cash purchases for canned and dry good only. There is also the possibility that some retailers / stores will just completely close their doors in the event of a crisis. As a merchant, why would you except electronic payment, or checks, if you knew there was a chance you might never get paid? Don’t be surprised to see “cash only” for food and gasoline in a crisis situation.
4.) Law Enforcement was totally unprepared to deal with this. Although there were no reports of arrests or violence where these incidents occurred, the majority of local law enforcement agencies do not have the extra human resources needed to provide a presence at retail locations given a repeat incident of this type on a larger scale.
5.) The potential risks of being in a situation of this type should be obvious. If you don’t have any stock pile of food / water in your home, the risks are NOT just starving. Eventually you will need food, and you will be forced out of your home to get it. That is a risk in itself depending on how wide spread and how serious the chaos is. You are leaving yourself open to get robbed / mugged, or perhaps worse. I can’t even imagine any of my loved ones being forced into a situation where they would have to go into a grocery store trying to source food in a panic situation of any type. What a nightmare. Oh, but you have a pistol and a CCW, so it’s OK, right? WRONG! The best way to win a fight is not to get into one. How much better would it be to already have what you need, and instead, watch the chaos unfold on TV from the relative safety of your home?
6.) Some ways to protect yourself in a situation of this type:
A.) Have as many things you may need before the crisis occurs to limit your exposure. Don’t force yourself into a bad situation because you filed to plan and prepare.
B.) If you are forced to go out into that environment, BE ARMED! This is why having a pistol / revolver is very important. You are not walking into your local grocery store with a long gun. If you do, you may create even more problems for yourself depending on where you live. If you don’t own handguns, carry a knife. It’s better than nothing. If you can’t bring yourself to carrying a knife, consider a small, high powered flashlight. You should have one of these on you at all times if you are serious about self- defense. Blinding (even in daylight) your attacker and making an escape is not a bad outcome. There are no laws against carrying flashlights (yet). We can talk about this topic for days, but bottom line, you MUST be armed in a situation like this. Even if you are armed, you are still taking your chances if you have to go into a situation like this. Remember, the bad guys will also likely be armed too.
C.) DO NOT go into a situation alone if you have the choice. There is strength in numbers, even if you only have one other person to help watch your back. 4 eyes are better than 2, two armed individuals are better than one.
D.) Don’t put all your cash / credit cards in the same pocket. If you get robbed, maybe you can limit your loss. There are lots of things you can do here, but you get the point. Be crafty.
D.) Individually, most criminals are cowards, and the method of attack they prefer is ambush. However, things change in a large crowd. Criminals tend to flock together in groups, and they become braver, and much more dangerous. If you think you are going to accurately predict the behavior of a violent mob, or that a pistol is going to be adequate protection against that mob, good luck with that.
7.) Last but not least: Cash is King! If there is a “glitch” in the system, EBT / SNAP cards will not be the only forms of electronic payment that may be effected. On the heels of the National Bank of Panama “Glitch / Software upgrade” 2 weeks ago, we are now hearing about another “glitch” affecting the second largest bank in Mexico. Remember that JP Morgan Chase is also a major US Government vendor for EBT card holders, and we know JP Chase has nothing on their balance sheet but lies. Again…cash is king! Walmart will not be excepting gold and silver as a medium of exchange anytime soon, so be sure to have a stash of cash in small bills ($5’s,$10’s, $20’s) if you can afford to do so.
Regardless of what happens, and when it happens, it’s obvious that we could be starting to see cracks in the surface of the dam of the current financial system. Although I find this very concerning, at the same time, I am happy about this development. Why, would I be “Happy” you ask? Because, the parasites in this country are finally going to start to learn a lesson that there is no such thing as “free money”. The American people have one of the shortest memories on the planet, but they will NOT forget having their food supply cut off. It’s certainly going to get interesting.
Best Wishes & Stay Safe!
